Exhibition, PORT 1560 Visitor Centre, Rogendorf Palace and Brewhouse, Český Krumlov

An exhibition project entitled How They Lived, situated inside the Rogendorf Palace and completed based on our own design and storyboard. The presentation on the ground floor is dedicated to the construction development of the palace as such as well as to its gardens and owners over the centuries. On floor 1 it continues through the late 19th century, reflecting the changes associated with the development of technology and its influence on the everyday life of burghers to culminate with interactive game rooms located on floor 2, which evoke winter and summer sports at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. What makes the exhibition different from the usual permanent exhibitions is the possibility to touch items and furnishings, to take them in your hands, to play a barrel organ, to listen to a voice in an old telephone, to try out a typewriter, to sit on a high wheel, to drive an old boat or to put on old skis or even skates and go skating. Anna of Rogendorf, the real owner of the palace at the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries, whose likeness has not survived, but who we can still meet in the exhibitions – as a living person, as a voice and as an image – acts as the guide and spirit of the palace. The presentation of the past is animated through numerous pieces of cutting-edge AV equipment. In the dining room of the 19th-century burgher flat, you can choose and have several courses served on a plate from the menu. See the goosegirl in the painting in the lounge to have a wink at you, feel the breeze bending the branches of the tree above her head, watch the geese as they graze the grass. Listen to the horses neighing on the promenade as well as the drivers of the first cars blowing the horns; enjoy the slapstick movie in the cinema. Part of the visitor centre complex is the Brewhouse, with native technology, infographics and AV equipment informing visitors about the beer production process. Included is a fully furnished master brewer’s office and a marketplace with everything that once belonged to beer production, all found on the penultimate floor. The experience is topped off by a pub offering the visitor the opportunity to influence the quarrel of the disputing guests, though just through virtual reality.
